Music, how do I even begin to describe what you have brought into my life?
As weird as it sounds, I believe that one should have a "soundtrack" to every moment in your life.
I remember growing up and the "coolest" people you knew where your cousins or those you saw on TV, friends werent really that cool because when you are young you feel the need to always be one up from your peers. My relationship with music started with the music learnt from my "brothers" Thebe Tshupe and Oletlile "Letli" Mogotsi. I would listen to whatever they played and I would see the joy and pride they had as they listened to their then favourite song, band, group etc and all I wanted was the music they had. I couldnt wait for the holidays because thats when Thebe would come with new music from Joburg and I would get a taste....a taste only because he would be visiting for a couple of days.
In my later years even tried rapping with a group of friends, we called ourselves M.E. (Maximum Emotions) under Tu Smooth Records owned by Udi Ben Lou Lou, I performed at Variety Shows and even hosted/MCed a couple of them.
As I grew older I learnt of the different genres and in a way discovered who i am and where i wanna be in music because the more "freedom" and independence i got, the more music became a part of my life. I moved out of my small hometown Mafikeng and went into South Africa(only because I am from Bophutatswana). Im was alone in big cities and meeting wonderful people, I was 16 and it felt like I owned the world..Mommy wasnt around and I had all the freedom in the world to do as I please. I meet a young lady from Soweto Mpho Molao and she also loved music. We used to go to school during the day and party at night because that was the only way one could hear the music we loved, sometimes even putting ourselves in very sticky situations so that we could get to where the party and the music was. Mpho is still in my life and she is a dancer now...
I knew that i wanted music to be a part of my life somehow...
I met a very crazy but humble guy in 2006, his name is Keabetswe "OttoB" Letsholo and I swear to u this guy is my twin from another mother. We are so different but yet so the same, this guy is very passionate about everything he does and one of his passions is music. We got together and talked about sharing our love for music with friends and loved ones... We started hosting a number of parties in Johannesburg and Pretoria and we were surprised at the response we got from people, they loved our concept. We believe in sharing music with anyone that is willing to listen and keeping Deep House Music alive.
In my life I have met so many people, some that I never thought I would meet or never even thought I would share a conversation with over a tequila or something else :). Some of my best friends I met through music, I have been through some of the worst of times in my life and Ive been through some of the best times in my life, through it all everyday when i woke up i would play music and life would go on. Music is the love of my life because it never left my side.. and it never will, through all I can still rely on it to make things better..
So I thank you Music, My First Love.
